Totally do not understand why one would use a RS on a straight line. What am I not understanding?

Hi Caroline, Reverse Spin is used to change the dogs line or to avoid off-course obstacles that would otherwise appear on your dog’s natural line. In this exercise, the tunnel (end of #7) and the seesaw are on the dog's natural line of sight from 4-5 so the moving Reverse Spin takes them out of the equation. For some dogs this is not needed, for example dogs with high handler focus often don't need a reverse Spin whereas dogs with high obstacle focus need them more.
