Why Does My Dog Drop Bars?

Not all dogs are natural jumpers. What can you do when your dog keeps knocking bars at dog agility?

To be able to find a solution to your dog's jumping problem, you will first have to determine the reason why the dog is dropping the bars. Is there a physical problem, or is there something you can do to help your dog be a more consistent jumper?

For the dog to be able to jump correctly in different situations, he will need clear information from his handler, as early as possible. In the OneMind Dogs basic training we teach the puppies to understand the handling first on the flat, without any obstacles.

One of our goals is to build up a strong obstacle performance for the dog. We don't want the dog´s obstacle performance skills limit the handler´s handling options. One important thing to teach the dog is staying committed to the obstacle, no matter what the handler does.

When starting with a new dog, we don’t just wait to see if he will be a good jumper or not. When we gradually start to raise the bar, we also start to teach the dog skills that he will need in order to be able to handle different types of jumping challenges in the future. We teach the same things to all dogs, regardless of their natural jumping skills.

Our mission is to give a happy life to dogs by helping people become amazing dog owners. We are passionate about increasing the mutual understanding between the dog and the owner, making a life together more enjoyable for both.
