What If Things Don't Get Better

Leading OneMind Dogs Coach Mari Kaplas was suffering from a sore knee for several months. Finally she went to the doctor and was diagnosed with arthrosis and loose objects in her knee joint.

Since Mari couldn’t run with her damaged and aching knee, she felt that she needed to take a break from agility competition until “things got better.”

Mari’s husband, leading OneMind Dogs Coach Mikko Aaltonen, is known for his wise words. He said to Mari: “But what if things don’t get better?” Mikko encouraged Mari to get back on competition courses even with her injured knee - and that’s what she did!

Mari and Hu won their second agility certificate with the run on this video.

Mari says: “I need to accept that at this point it is unlikely Hu and I will be able to master every course. This is what we have now, and we will do what we can. And we are off to trials! How cool is that!”

Before the problems with her knee started Mari had already built a solid foundation for her Australian Kelpie Hu’s agility skills. Now, Mari has been focusing on training up on skills that will help her handle her dog from a bit further away.

The less you can support your dog with your own movement, the more skills you need to train your dog and yourself. Luckily OneMind Dogs handling techniques offer tools for handling, whether you are ahead or behind your dog, or on the left or right.

Our mission is to give a happy life to dogs by helping people become amazing dog owners. We are passionate about increasing the mutual understanding between the dog and the owner, making a life together more enjoyable for both.
