Teaching And Proofing Obstacle Skills

Teaching your dog the obstacles is one big part of agility training. The more independent your dog is in performing the obstacles, the easier it will be for you as a handler to concentrate on your job on the course - directing your dog on the line that leads him to the correct obstacles.

As everything else about agility, learning the obstacle skills should be a positive experience for the dog. In OneMind Dogs obstacle training, we let our dogs use their brain a lot. They often get to figure out themselves what they can do with different obstacles in order to be generously rewarded, which makes them brave and confident. Start teaching the obstacles to your dog with the help of the OMD obstacle training videos!

If you are a beginner, take your dog to the obstacles for the first time with an experienced instructor. Use only safe equipment, and make sure that there are no risks for injuries.

In OneMind Dogs obstacle training, the main goal is to teach dogs thoroughly how to perform certain obstacles. The dog should be able to clear the obstacles regardless of the handler's movement or position. We try to avoid situations where the dog´s obstacle performance skills limit the handler´s handling options. The more independently the dog can do the obstacles, the more possibilities the handler has to get through all kinds of sequences and courses.

To make our dog´s obstacle performances strong, we get them used to different kind of distractions. Despite what the handler is doing, the dog always tries her best to perform obstacles correctly.

If your dog already has the basic obstacle skills, you can start proofing the skills by challenging your dog further. Learn more about proofing the obstacle skills with Next Level seminar videos 1 - 10!
