What is your role as a OneMind Dogs advisor?
I support the company in all kinds of legal matters, but especially in the identification, protection, and control of business-related intellectual property rights. Of course, you can’t protect everything related to the training business, but it is essential to find the most important elements to be protected and prevent other players from copying or exploiting trademarks, copyrights or design protections.
What do you think about the OneMind Dogs team?
The company has a strong team. CEO Noora Keskievari has done exemplary work and she’s highly motivated. OneMind Dogs is not a typical startup. It’s much further along in its business than the startups I usually invest in. The product demand has already been validated and the company has revenue. Now they’re scaling up.
What are your thoughts about the pet business?
The dog training market is exceptionally interesting. There are fairly few markets that are this large and still so immature. The market has not centralized, it’s very scattered. The biggest competitors are local dog trainers and YouTube content creators, so there isn’t a massive amount of competition.
In this respect, the company is in a completely different situation than most other startups. Usually, an early phase business has large competitors and a risk that a giant company can destroy the market in one swoop. I don’t see the same kind of risk in this case.
How do you see the future of OneMind Dogs?
I believe that when the funding round is successfully completed and the product is out, the growth will start quickly. I believe the company will look very different in two years than what it does now.
What would you like to say to people who are considering investing in OneMind Dogs?
I had rational reasons for investing. The team is strong, the market is interesting and I personally like dogs. If you think about the market in the same way I do, and if you think the company is interesting, it’s a good idea to invest now. I don’t believe there will be another funding round where a so-called ordinary investor will be able to participate. I think the next round will be targeted at professional investors, so this is the last chance to get onboard.
